A biologist in the name of Richter had conducted an experiment by putting rats in a bucket of water. Rats swam as much as they can before giving it up and let themselves drown. "The rats are in a situation against which they have no defense... they seem literally to ‘give up’" he wrote. Experiment gets interesting in the second part, Richter put similar rats to a bucket of water again, letting them swim as much as they can and right before they give up he took them out of water and dry them. Rats were saved and now they know there is hope for survival. Richter put them in the bucket again and watched them swim. The rats giving up after average 15 minutes and accepting the death now were swimming for hours. There were rats swam about 60-80 HOURS.
So whats changed? Rats had learned there was hope. They learned that they aren't doomed, they had a way out. And they kept swimming as the only thing they had was hope. “After elimination of hopelessness, the rats do not die.” he wrote.
You get the point right? We have bad situations which may seem very awful at first but we should try and find a way out. These kind of examples are given to compare this experiment with our human lifes. Let's look at this from a different perspective.
We have some guys designing a literal torture to try their ideas. Just like in the experiment, there is no way out and mandotary participants are at the edges of giving up. Designers seeing this problem and creating fake hopes for participants to make them suffer more.
Okay so this sounded horrific... Let's try to make it a little bit "nicer" shall we?
Let's say there are some guys at the top of the pyramid desinging such technological and economical plans for the whole world to live by. And let's say you were born and grew up in this system and they made you believe there is no way out of their pre-planned lifestyle. As you suffer from living by their standarts you start to feel hurt. Thoughts like "Why are we doing this?", "It hurts me then whats the point of continuing like this?", "If everyone really hates to live like this then why do we continue?" start to haunt you and many others as you continue swimming. The designers above must have realized something was wrong, they made slight changes on their world plan. Now you have to go to a college, have a full time job and some other small tweaks. This made you feel comfortable, there are people caring about you! How lovely... After some time you found yourself swimming in the same bucket of water again, living in the system you hated, working for people you hated but with a small difference, now it doesn't bother you. As long as you get your paycheck everything is fine. Even if you don't like the way things going, you have little to no time thinking and questioning it like you used to. You got stucked in the rat race.
This one sounded too realistic even though I didn't intended to, hmmmmm...
So you might be thinking, "What the hell is this guy talking about? Like what should we do then? Stop living or something?" No, what I mean is that corpos, few people in power and "things" like that have potential to abuse your hope. And they are probably abusing it for their own benefit. We make them money and reputation while we continue being alive. This economical plan is designed for it. So they have to keep us alive in this torture chamber, with minimum cost.
This torture chamber is also being seen like the normal way to live which is horrifying. This attitude is being imposed in every aspect of life, being taught in schools. We should know who we are living, working for. Only way to live in this system with the minimum torture is questioning eveything. If something got served to you, you should first think why is it being served to me? We need to question the reasons and results of the actions which may affect us.
