My journey:
It all started at the beginning of this summer. I was dedicated at that time, I had to find/build/buy an old computer this summer and if I couldn't, well I didn't consider that as an option at the beginning to be honest.
But how would I find an old computer? I couldn't buy 'that' old parts online since no one sells them (because who would buy them at the first place) and there weren't many online second-hand resellers and the ones reselling were trying to rip me off. (cons of not living in usa or eu ._.)
That left me with the only chance I had, finding local computer shops. Local shops might sell me old parts or maybe a whole build computer for cheap prices. Only problem I had was how would I find such local shops. I'm talking about local computer repair shops and such small businesses. Also shopping with these businesses aren't that easy too. There's a lot of them just trying to rip you off, thinking you are a computer illiterate. So it would be best for me to find someone I know in person, or someone's friend.
Oookayyy, our problem is kinda evolved now. Now our problem is not finding a computer but finding a small business who won't rip me off. I started with my family first, there's this one 'computer guy' every family has (actually my family has two of them including me😎) but he couldn't help me unfortunately. He didn't know such person who has old computer(parts).
Of course there's a lot of local computer shops near me but as I said, I didn't want to go there without having a reference. This is how it works at least in my country. So I started to ask other small businesses I go about local computer guys. You know how these small businesses work, they know nearly every other shop in their area and often time they are friends with them.
And I found the local computer dude I was looking for weeks thanks to my barber. Yes, by my barber. Turned out he paid this computer guy to build a computer for his kid. And also he is his neighbor so this is a bonus reference point.
I meet up with him after some time, he is a middle aged man who had a computer repair shop at past but closed it for some reason I don't exactly know. Because he had a shop at past he has a lot of old computer parts. This was so great to be true! We talked a little bit and he told me how he can't sell those old parts because he doesn't want to rip off people. I mean he could easily build several computers and sell them to offices and computer illiterate people if he wanted to.
I told him I want a low-mid-end old-ass computer and he accepted my cheap offer. Oh, I also got 2 more extra motherboards, 2GB DDR3 ram stick, one Intel Core 2 Duo and a 160GB HDD from him! He just gave them to me :D He just liked my interest for computers I think.
So this is how the computer hunt journey ended. I got a computer for 1/36 of the minimum wage which is a little more than 16 USD. I of course upgraded the computer and did a lot of things with it. I will write about them in future.
